Cruise Terminated Following Fatal Incident of Female Passenger Stranded on Tropical Isle

A 60-day voyage around the Australian Coast is being halted following the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship left without her and went back several hours later after the personnel became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive hunt found her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an revised communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would attend the vessel in Cairns upon its return.

The ship initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.

"She was asked her to go back, alone. Then the ship departed, apparently without performing a passenger count.

"During some point in that sequence, or shortly after, mum succumbed, alone."

Company Response

Via official communication, the CEO verified that the operator was "working closely with investigators to support their examination".

He said that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had extended its total backing to the loved ones.

The ship serves up to 120 passengers with 46 personnel, according to corporate information. It was purpose-built to access remote areas of the nation's coastline and is equipped with "tenders" - compact vessels used to take individuals on shore trips.
